New SureChEMBL Interface and APIs

We are excited to announce that the new SureChEMBL's beta version is now out and can be accessed at: https://www.surechembl.org/beta/


We’d love for you to try our new web interface and share your feedback. As we gradually move to the new web interface and APIs, we’re aiming to complete the transition by the end of 2026. If you use our APIs, we encourage you to start exploring the new versions too. Please let us know if you have any questions or need help getting started.

What’s Changing

Web Interface

SureChEMBL’s web interface has been redesigned using Nuxt 3 to improve the user experience and support asynchronous annotation using LeadMine. It’s currently available at https://www.surechembl.org/beta/ and will soon replace the current interface.

The new web interface provides easier navigation of the search results page by grouping patents belonging to the same family into a single result. Users have an option to disable the grouping and view all results.


The new web interface also supports listing all patents within a family by providing a patent UCID. There are links to View all patents in a family in grouped search results and also on the patent detail page.


We have made major improvements on the patent detail page, which now generates annotations on the fly using Leadmine. The legend on the patent detail page allows users to choose annotation categories of their interest and quickly navigate through the page.



The Compound Detail page continues to show chemical properties as well as UniChem cross references for that compound and list of all patents that contain that compound. Users can also query directly via compounds using structure search.

Programmatic Access (APIs)

If you access SureChEMBL via the API, please plan your migration to our new REST APIs soon. These are also currently in beta, and will soon replace the existing APIs. You can find out more about new endpoints at API docs
New APIs offer similar features to the old one but the response format might be different. Please feel free to reach out if there’s anything missing.

Looking Ahead

The new SureChEMBL web interface and APIs have been developed to provide users with a better experience with improved features and improved maintainability.

While the new platform is stable, you may notice some missing features that we’re actively working on. Your feedback will help make this transition smooth for everyone. If you rely on SureChEMBL in your work, please try out the new platform and get in touch if you notice any issues.
